We headed over to Governor’s Island on Saturday, July 16th to share what we’re doing with the public at the City of Water Day event.
The City of Water Day is a city-wide event geared toward celebrating the potential of our waterfront and to promoting environmental sustainability all around. The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance wants to make the harbor cleaner and more accessible, and the biggest way that green roofs contribute to this goal is by reducing storm water runoff.
We were greeted at the event with great enthusiasm. Many people were attracted to our table which included Live Roof samples – a tray system – which we had on display. Everyone who talked to us was excited about the possibilities of installing a green roof on their home. Many of them were surprised that green roofs were not just limited to big, commercial building, and that we could install a green roof even on sloped roofs.
We learned about some of the great plans the City has for the future of the waterfront and hopefully, green roofs will be a big contributor to this vision!
